Elie Shamir

b. 1953, Kfar Yehoshua, Israel; lives and works in Kfar Yehoshua

 

Elie Shamir—third generation of the founders of Kfar Yehoshua, where his studio is—documents the Jezreel Valley landscapes, which are integrated into the story of his life and the life of his family, the people of his village, and the history of the area. The place is a key player in his work. Figurative and realistic, his paintings are constructed from multiple dabs stains?, corresponding with the Impressionist tradition. 

As part of Flying Cargo's "Art on the Road" project, he painted a diptych on the truck, featuring his personal pains on one side, and his loves on the other. Each side of the truck bears a poem written by Shamir with diacritics by writer Meir Shalev.

 

Holds a BFA from the Department of Fine Arts, Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem. Teaches at Oranim Academic College of Education and at Bezalel, Jerusalem. Recipient of the Israeli Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sports Prize for the Visual Arts (2005) and the Benno Gitter Prize from Tel Aviv Museum of Art (2006). 

His works have been presented in solo exhibitions at Tel Aviv Museum of Art; Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv; Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art, Herzliya, Israel; The Museum of Israeli Art, Ramat Gan, Israel; Haifa Museum of Art; and Mishkan Museum of Art, Ein Harod, Israel.
